It is obviously seen that students who have good writing skills rarely get troubles in studying. They are able to get better grade. They are also capable to communicate their thought effectively. Abdulla believes that improving our writing skills will pay us off. The writing strategies—analyze your writing situation, limit your writing topics, and lay out a plan of organization—that you learn will serve you well for the rest of your life. Abdulla gives us seven precepts which will help us to write effectively and impressively. Three important guidelines which I think can give the most contributions to our writing are highlighted below.

Firstly, write about the subject that interests you. If the assignment that you get authorize you to choose any topic that you like, it will be better for you to write on something you like most. People may become more interested in talking about something that they like. They seem likely to have a lot of things to say about their interest, hobby, special thing, special person, etc. It seems that they never ran out of topics to discuss when it comes to their like. Same case is seen in writing. People tend to write more sentences for describing or explaining every single thing they are interested in. This tendency must be used to make our writing look good. Any topics that we like should be an inspiration for our writing. As a final point, our work of writing will be impressive.

Secondly, do not overstate your case. Thus, this suggests you not to overemphasize one case. Abdulla highlights that if you make sweeping claims and big generalization, you will quickly damage your credibility. The topic you choose in writing must represent the most important idea that you will present. Do not present too much general consideration about certain topic in your writing. As what Abdulla says about strategies of writing, one of them is limiting your writing topic. It is important not to lose your mind and keep walking on the right path, be consistent with your plan of organization in writing something.

Thirdly, support your assertion. Abdulla contends that professors are skeptical readers who expect writers to back their assertions with evidence and reasons. This opinion is easily understood. We could not write on something academic without any specific circumstances. We need reason to start writing. We also need evidence to strengthen our writing. These evidences will make it more powerful and logically constructed. These also help us to elaborate our writing and as a result our writing will not be poorly composed.

Another four precepts showed in the article mostly deal with how we construct the organization of our writing. This article gives us several crucial information that we could use in academic writing. The author uses simple languages and comprehensible vocabularies. Thus, this article is easily understood.

Because the article is stated on website which helps students get information about English and constructs without detailed explanation, this article is an appropriate one for students. This article is intended for those who want to get some tips in writing. Since the article only presents several points of guidelines in writing but does not give clear explanation, it is suggested that you have to browse on the net to search more details.
